My Really Local Fridge: a generous year ahead
Really Local Harvest and the Moncton Food Depot Alimentaire join forces to expand local food access in Greater Moncton — a refrigerator at the market for in-condition donations.
To celebrate the long-awaited 2021 new year, Really Local Harvest and the Moncton Food Depot Alimentaire have decided to join their forces in order to expand the access of local products to people and families in need of Greater Moncton.
A refrigeration unit was placed at the Market during the previous weekend to gather food items in acceptable condition that could be reused to benefit others. My Really Local Fridge is launched Friday January 15, 2021 — visitors and members of the Dieppe Market community are invited to make a donation.
Donations will be collected every week, year-round, at the Friday Express Market (4 to 6 p.m.) and at the Saturday Dieppe Market (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.). The Food Depot Alimentaire then picks them up every Monday and redistributes them to their partner organizations — food banks, the community soup kitchen, and other support organizations in New Brunswick.
The initiative aims to characterize 2021 through generosity, community sharing and mutual support — while reducing food waste and fostering environmentally conscious behaviours.
